You must prepare for the exam by studying the Animal Husbandry section of the WAEC syllabus. The format, notes, and goals for the Animal Husbandry test are all included.

The Animal Husbandry syllabus must be studied in order to be prepared for the exam. You can use it as a guide to help you decide which topics to read about. Additionally, there are notes on ideas that you ought to learn carefully.

Exam preparation without reference to the Animal Husbandry syllabus is equivalent to visiting a farm without your farm equipment. You won’t be effective in the end.

Make sure to use the syllabus when you start your exam preparations.

WAEC Animal Husbandry

This syllabus has been created to present animal husbandry as a trade for a living, with a focus on the development of knowledge and entrepreneurial abilities.

Candidates will be required to respond to questions on each of the subjects listed in the Syllabus column. The notes within are meant to give an idea of the range of the questions that will be asked, but they shouldn’t be viewed as a complete list of restrictions and examples.

Aims and Objectives

The syllabus will consequently aim to evaluate candidates’ expertise in:

  • basic animal production practices such as feeding, housing, pest and disease control;
  • efficient and effective management  of animal enterprise;
  • efficient processing, preservation, packaging, storage and marketing of animal products;
  • basic entrepreneurial skills in animal husbandry related vocations;
  • basic knowledge and skills in animal improvement and health.

Requirements

The following groups of farm animals should be raised in at least one school offering animal husbandry:

  • monogastrics e.g. poultry, pigs, snails, camel, donkey, horse, rabbit, bee.
  • ruminants e.g. cattle, sheep and goat.
    • It is recommended that the schools should have agricultural laboratories.
    • It is also recommended that candidates keep practical notebooks and specimen albums which should contain records of activities undertaken and observations made on the school farm and field trips and of specimens collected.
    • It is also expected that the study would be supplemented by visits to well established livestock and poultry farms, abattoirs, feed mills, animal product-based companies and other institutions related to animal

Examination Scheme

Papers 1, 2, and 3 are the three required papers that must all be taken. Papers 1 and 2 will be taken together as a composite paper in a single sitting.

Paper 1 will include forty multiple-choice questions that must all be done in 40 minutes or less for a total of 40 marks.

Six essay questions from across the entire course will make up PAPER 2. Each question is worth 20 points. Candidates will have two hours to respond to four questions for a total of 80 points.

Paper 3 will be a practical exam for applicants applying to schools and a practical work test for people applying privately. Each version will have four questions, each of which must be answered in full within 1½ hours  to receive 60 points.
