The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) requires candidates to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) themselves. However, there are situations where candidates may not be able to register themselves, such as illness or disability.
In such cases, it is possible for another person to help with the registration process. Here are some things to keep in mind if you need someone else to help you register for UTME/DE:
- Authorization: You will need to provide written authorization for the person to register on your behalf. This can be a letter or a form provided by JAMB.
- Personal Information: The person registering on your behalf will need to provide their personal information, including their name, date of birth, and email address.
- NIN: The National Identification Number (NIN) is now a requirement for UTME/DE registration. The person registering on your behalf will need to provide their NIN, or you can provide your own if you have one.
- Payment: The person registering on your behalf will need to make the payment for the registration. This can be done online or at a bank.
- Verification: After the registration is complete, you will need to verify the information provided by the person who registered on your behalf. This can be done by logging into your JAMB profile.
It is important to note that JAMB does not allow third-party registration services. This means that you should not use any service that claims to be able to register you for UTME/DE on your behalf. Doing so could result in your registration being cancelled or rejected.
JAMB UTME/DE Registration Requires Applicants’ Presence
You must go to CBT centres by yourself for UTME/DE registration. You cannot send someone else to handle the JAMB UTME/DE registration for you. This is because UTME/DE registration involves not only the filling of an online form but also the capturing of your live passport photos and fingerprints (biometrics) at the points of registration.
Why Can’t Another Person Register UTME/DE for You?
It is illegal and not allowed for another person to register UTME/DE for you. This is because your fingerprints and live passport photos must be taken at the points of registration. It is not advisable to have another person’s photo and fingerprints taken on your behalf.
Another Person Can Buy UTME/DE PIN for You
Although you cannot be helped to register UTME/DE, it is possible for your friend, brother, sister, or teacher to help you buy the JAMB UTME/DE form (ePIN) online, through the bank, or any vending centre. All that the person needs from you is your JAMB profile code, which you must have collected after sending NIN to 55019 and #50 debited on your line.
With this code, he or she can approach any PIN vending centre – NIPOST, café, bank, CBT centre, etc. Only this profile code will be used to sell the PIN to your proxy. Then, you (the real owner) can take it to the nearest CBT centre for registration.
What About the Change of Institutions and Uploading of Results?
You cannot send others to help you with change of institutions/courses. JAMB has warned that candidates should not do that. They want you to visit CBT centres or the JAMB office by yourself for activities such as change of data, uploading of results, upgrading of UTME to DE, etc. With the latest development that requires the candidate’s fingerprint for the change of data activities, you have to be there for the changes.
However, for the uploading of O’level results, a CBT centre or JAMB office can allow your parents to do the uploading with you if they have your real O’level/A’level results, JAMB result, and profile code with them
